Breakfast with Vice Chairman Reede
In an effort to unite and empower the community, Vice Chairman Reede launched "Breakfast with the Vice Chairman." This event was designed to create an informal forum to connect with the community and share information about tribal affairs and projects of the Office of the Vice Chairman. This is a bi-monthly event. The next breakfast is scheduled for May 17 at 7:00 a.m. in the Tribal Council Hall.
For Your Information (FYI) Community Briefings
To provide the community with answers to questions regarding tribal program services such as healthcare, housing, law enforcement, and realty, the Office of the Vice Chairman launched a series of community informational briefings titled, For Your Information. The second session is scheduled for Monday, May 21 between 6-7 pm in the Tribal Council Hall. The topic of discussion will be the tribal realty process. The Tribal Realty program staff will be on hand to present information on the types of services that are available to tribal members.
Come out and hear about land lease agreements, surveying and other related topics. Knowledge is power!
Vice Chairman's Community Comment Line 475-3000
Vice Chairman Reede has long been concerned with methods to encourage and solicit efficient public involvement. The Vice Chairman believes that elected officials need to know their constituents' opinions before they vote on resolutions or take other actions. From the other side, the people want access to their elected leaders. They want quick and easy ways to make their views known, even if few actually ever do so. To help improve the communication between the public and the Office of the Vice Chairman, we have created a Community Comment Telephone Line to provide another avenue for the voices of the public to be heard. The line will be available for comment 24/7 through a voice mail system. You will be able to leave comments and questions on tribal issues.
The number to call is 475-3000 to let your voice be heard.
Vice Chairman's Taskforce on Prosperity
To complement Chairman Nosie's goals relating to economic development, the Vice Chairman has created the Vice Chairman's Taskforce on Prosperity. The mission of the Task Force will be to facilitate the creation of a public/private partnership to effect institutional, social, political, and economic change to enable the citizens of the San Carlos Apache Tribe to achieve economic security, which in turn will lead to greater overall community prosperity. This Task Force will focus its work on four key areas:
- Tribal Livable wage
- Access to affordable and quality childcare
- Access to quality healthcare
- Access to affordable housing

Vice Chairman's Internship Program
The Vice Chairman's Tribal Government Internship Program brings together talented tribal member high school Seniors, current college students, and recent graduates. The intern will be placed in the Vice Chairman's Office. Throughout the eight week program, the intern is provided with a full range of opportunities and experiences that will augment his/her academic profile. In addition to gaining experience within a Tribal government office, the intern will also participate in site visits to various Tribal government offices to discuss and see firsthand the various functions of those offices. The purpose of the Vice Chairman's Tribal Government Internship Program is to provide opportunities for tribal member high school Seniors, current college students, and recent college graduates interested in public service to gain firsthand knowledge of the way in which a Tribal Government office operates on a daily basis, to observe the legislative process at the Council level, and to develop research skills related to public policy. Interns will perform a variety of tasks depending on the needs of the Vice Chairman's Office during each period of service and the particular interests and skills of the intern.
PROJECT PRIDE
This program is designed to support community pride through trash control. The Office of the Vice Chairman is currently in the process of exploring ways in which we can support clean neighborhoods through strategic placement of community dumpsters and trash cans. The goal is to provide the community with access to proper waste disposal methods. This project is currently in the formation stage. We look forward to sharing our progress with you in the upcoming months.
