Information and Technology – Our Bridge to the Future

The world of technology is expanding more rapidly now than ever. Between 2000 and 2004, cell phone subscribers increased from 109 million to 182 million nationwide. By 2008, there will be nearly 160 million. These figures tell us that the rest of the world is leaving the families of the San Carlos Apache Tribe behind. The tribal government must take steps to foster growth, spur technological innovation, and create high paying jobs here at home by investing in education, training and basic technology research to enable private sector commercialization, and making government a leader and early adopter of new technologies and services that can better meet tribal member needs. Technology holds the promise of making all of our lives better, especially in a rural area such as our reservation. As tribal leaders we must lead the way to ensure that every Apache has access to safe, secure and private cutting-edge technology.
